Shedd Aquarium The John G. Shedd Aquarium opened in 1930 as a gift to Chicago. Shedd felt that because every great city in the United States and Europe had a fine aquarium, Chicago must have one that was the biggest and best in both its collection of animals and architectural style. Over time, the Aquarium has also become a leader in conservation, saving endangered species & habitats, and rescuing & rehabilitating wildlife.

Timeless Galena Spend the day in one of the most historic cities in the Midwest. Established in 1826, and named after the natural mineral form of lead sulfide, Galena was part of a lead mining district established by the government. By the mid-1800s, Galena was the busiest port on the Mississippi River between St. Paul and St. Louis with a population of over 14,000. After some economic ups and downs, Galena is now a well-known tourist destination.
